Written twenty-four hours before moving east, in 2013.
T -24 hours to liftoff into our new life in New England. Chicago, I composed a loving and fond farewell message in my wee little brain but, alas, the missive never escaped its confines. So here's what you get:
You treated me well, I suffered very few dings and bangs, a handful of tickets and endured a lot of negative politics. We will see each other again, though probably not for so long. There's plenty I will miss, mainly a few of your finer citizens, but certainly your more prominent features, cultures, and breadth.
Be well, Chicago. Until next time.
I write tributes for a living — eulogies, toasts, send-offs and keepsakes. See how that works.
